"My illustrations explore the realm of dreams and fairytales. I love the freedom of this world, where metaphors are the building blocks, and almost every combination is valid. In a dream or in a fairytale, things can be simultaneously true and false, possible to understand and impossible to explain.
Most of my work is based on playing with language. Whether I'm using paper and paints, a camera, or software, I am always interested in language and words.
I grew up in a family where words and syntax were worshiped. My parents were professional philologists, translators, and journalists. While growing up, my siblings and I witnessed endless hours of discussions, even fights over a word or a sentence in a specific text.
Later, when I started reading in foreign languages, I would ask my parents, “What does this word mean?” and they would always answer, ‘’It depends on the context.” The context answer stuck with me, and I can safely say it is, to this day, what I believe gives life to the concept of meaning.
In my art, words, language, and context are my biggest inspiration. They give birth to dreams, mythology, philosophy, love, confusion, beauty, and horror. They make possible the mighty storytelling.
When playing with all the possible impossibilities, I use whatever comes in handy: paper, paint, scissors, computer, software, camera, printer, light, fabric, and many more.
Recently, I've been experimenting a lot with constantly evolving AI text-to-image algorithms.
I am in love with art that is printed on quality paper, mounted in a beautiful frame, and hung on the wall. Because of that, I sell only printed illustrations and almost never digital files."
